Cochranes at Fenton Barns

Kristoffersen’s flooring family welcomes a new arrival!

At Kristoffersen Carpets and Flooring, we’re a family business. It’s nearly 30 since Norrie Kristoffersen opened our first store in Portobello, and since then we’ve welcomed ‘offspring’ stores in Morningside, Corstorphine, Newtongrange and Galashiels.

Now we’re adopting Cochrane’s of Fenton Barns into our family. Cochrane’s has been established in East Lothian for many years and shares the same family-based ethos as we do. But with our new increased buying power and the sharing of expertise in computerised systems, warehousing and staff skills, we’re confident it’s a marriage made in heaven.

The Cochrane’s store in Fenton Barns will be managed by Chris Stevens who has been Kristoffersen’s manager in Corstorphine. He brings a wealth of experience in customer service plus the knowledge that comes from a period on the road as our company estimator. Chris is keen to build on Cochrane’s great reputation. He’s also hoping to retain as many of the existing team as he can so that customers new and old can enjoy continuity and more of the same excellent service.

One big happy flooring family.

An open and shutter case.

Kristoffersen Carpets and blinds (and shutters). Yes, recently we’ve brought the Kristoffersen know-how and customer service standards to blinds – and shutters too.

So if you’re fed up with the look of your window, or you just fancy something different, give us a call.

That’s exactly what Mr Hendrie recently did. He spoke to Chris at our Corstorphine shop and Dan popped out to measure and discuss options.

Mr Hendrie had already had a price from someone else in town, but he was delighted when we were able to offer an equivalent package of shutters for 30% less.

Chris, Dan and Jules completed the complex fit – bringing to bear years of experience. And our creative solutions to tricky fitting issues meant the final look is amazing.

Because the doors opened into the rooms and would have fouled the shutters if fitted in the standard way, we had to build walls out, outside-mount the shutters and cut each skirting back for a flush finish.

The Dakota range in colour Capella looks fantastic and Mr Hendrie is keen to look at shutters for another 4 windows in upstairs rooms.

So if you’re thinking of getting blinds or shutters for windows in your home, contact your local branch.

A dream becomes reality

Sometimes our customers come into our stores knowing exactly what they want.

They’ve seen a picture, heard about a product, talked to a friend. And they have this dream. Can we recreate it in their own home?

And the answer is nearly always, yes!

Take Mrs Hogg. She knew she wanted laminate on her landing and in her living room and bedrooms. But she wanted to make a feature of her stairs. She was imagining a wood effect on the treads and risers but contrasting chrome pieces on the stair nosings.

Daniel & Steven worked alongside Mrs Hogg and together they looked at various options. The best solution it turned out was to fit Amtico Spacia on the stairs and premier trim chrome nosings.

It’s all very well having a dream, but you need craftsmen fitters to turn that dream into a reality. Gary and his team have decades of experience fitting on different surfaces – creating amazing looking spaces that customers can be proud of.

It’s clearly worked because Mrs Hogg’s next-door neighbour has come in and ordered the same products. And, she’s referred another two customers to our Newtongrange store for a similar makeover.

That’s our dream. Happy customers telling all their friends how much they’ve enjoyed shopping at Kristoffersen Carpets.

Smooth operators

Ms Gray’s 300-year-old cottage kitchen was due to be modernised. But the sub-floor was all over the place. And if it’s one thing that’s true about floors, it’s that they only look as good as the sub-floor below.

Any imperfections underneath will be obvious once a new covering is installed so the first thing Daniel did when he surveyed Ms Gray’s kitchen floor, was to work out just how we were going to smooth over 300 years of lumps and bumps.

Not only was it uneven, various extensions over the years meant that some parts were wood and some stone or concrete.

Fortunately, we have the top team when it comes to getting the foundations right. Gary and Liam Ardex NA

screed and built up sections with 9mm SP101 plywood so that the floor was evened out completely – ready for Amtico to be fitted.

All this work was completed in advance of the kitchen being fitted. That way, there was a sound and smooth surface on which to install the units and appliances.

I think you’ll agree it’s a fantastic job from floor to ceiling.

A stunning transformation.

Breakout room at Leading Edinburgh Corporate

This was an interesting job completed out of office hours to allow the client uninterupted use of the facility. Brian and his team worked hard to deliver the project on budget and on time. A few different products including LVT and carpet tiles from Milliken (with built in underlay) were used. Various thicknesses of ply were needed to provide seamless transitions between areas.
