Fully Fitted Staircase

Tartan Stair carpet
Fully-fitted staircase

This is the benchmark method of fitting a staircase in the UK. The carpet is fitted to the full width of the treads and then secured to the stair with two pieces of gripper – one on the tread and one on the riser. The carpet comes over the tread nose and falls straight to the point where the riser meets the tread.

This is the American way of fitting a carpet on a staircase and it’s worth noting that not all stairs can be done in this style. Here, the carpet is pinned and/or glued under the stair nose resulting in the material following the profile of the stair tread. This is a more time-consuming and costly method of fitting a carpet so we need to quote a fitting price on a job-by-job basis.

Stair Runner

Stair Runner

With this method, we fit a runner centred on your stair. This can be in any width you choose, but it makes sense to leave a significant space of exposed stair on each side of the finished runner, and so they are usually made to 70cm. We custom-make our runners and fit them bespoke to your staircase which allows us to creatively show your stair off in the best light. The whipping on the edge can be done in a contrasting colour or to match the carpet.

This popular method is fitted in the same way as a whipped runner, and has seen a huge rise in popularity over recent years. Again this runner is custom-made to any size that you want but we can advise on what we feel would suit your staircase. We have a wide variety of tapes to choose from including black herringbone, plain cotton and linen, leather and even faux suede and leather.

With a big selection of styles, colours and finials, there’s bound to be a stair rod to suit your staircase. Stair rods are mainly used for aesthetics nowadays rather than for any fixing purpose. We still fit the carpet in the same manner as we do without the stair rods and then we fix the stair rods on top to add that final glamorous touch. These rods have been fitted with a tartan stair carpet.

 LVT Staircase

LVT looks amazing on stairs. It’s a complex and time-consuming fitting operation, but it’s well worth it. To put LVT on a staircase requires a lot of preparation work because if the stairs are concrete we have to grind and screed the steps, And if the steps are wooden, the riser and tread need plywood before fitting the LVT just as we would do before fitting LVT on any flat area.

The nosing is the connecting strip that sits on the corner of each step when we fit LVT. There are lots of choices for nosings both in many different colours and in lots of materials and styles.

If you have your heart set on a stair runner but the exposed staircase isn’t up to standard, it’s no problem. We can fit LVT to the stair then fit a stair runner over the top. The finished look is truly fantastic.

If you are looking for something different we can separate the risers from the treads with a wood effect on the riser and carpet on the tread.

Choice of stair carpet

It’s important that you choose a hard-wearing carpet for your staircase. That’s because your footfall is concentrated on a small area and the wear can become really obvious in a short time if the carpet isn’t up to the job. Again, our managers can help by pointing you in the direction of products that are hardy enough but will still look beautiful in many years’ time.

We have a big selection in our stores such as the very popular herringbone stair carpet, wool loops, tartan stair carpet, striped stair carpet, sisal carpet, and all types of wool carpets for stairs.

Just pop in to any of our stores and we’ll be delighted to give you advice. Or fill in the Contact us form and we will get back to you.
