ECO-FRIENDLY FLOORING
At Kristoffersens, we are always busy trying to minimise the environmental impact of your new floor. Whether it’s the material, the backing, the underlay or the transportation, we’re constantly finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
Wool is a great choice for the environmentally friendly floor. Because over half of UK farmland is only suitable for growing grass, livestock rearing is a perfect way to use that land for healthy food production. And because sheared sheep stay healthier and the excellent natural wool by-product is ideal for high quality luxury carpets, it’s a win-win.
Wool is a naturally renewable fibre which provides unrivalled durability and appearance retention when compared to synthetic carpets. And when twinned with Envirobac, a lightweight eco-friendly backing, can offer numerous environmental advantages. This backing is very flexible, super-strong and stable. And, its production is energy-efficient, effluent and emission-free and can be recycled at the end of its useful life.
Sisal is known for its strength, durability and texture. And carpets made from Sisal are also a top eco choice for homeowners because of their sustainability. Completely biodegradable, woven from natural fibres and ethically grown, sisal carpets are an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials.
Seagrass, jute and coir are other natural options that have a more positive impact on the environment. And in addition to being crafted from renewable materials, sisal and other natural fibre carpets also emit very low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a variety of chemicals that pollute air quality and can cause adverse health effects.
The main underlay we use is Tredaire Softwalk. This underlay is made from 100% recycled foam and provides great insulation meaning reduced energy consumption and costs.
